We all loved taking field trips in grade school. The permission slip, bus ride with classmates, anticipation of seeing something new with limited supervision, it was a natural high.
Field trips don’t inspire the same excitement as they did back in school days, but venturing outside the office walls can always be a learning experience. Recently, the folks at Bucci Insurance in Rhode Island, the closest geographic insurance marketing partner to Astonish Results, hosted me for an informational and strategy session.
Agency owner Anthony Bucci shared some interesting facts about Rhode Island Insurance, specifically contractor’s and auto:
- All contractors must register through the state and the minimum insurance required for contractors is $500K
- Contractors must prove insurance to become registered in Rhode Island and face a $5000 fine for failing to do so
- Even if you have only one part time employee working two hours a week, you are required to have workers comp insurance
- In order to register a vehicle, auto insurance is mandatory in R.I. However, roughly 15% buy auto insurance; register a vehicle, then dump the insurance until the vehicle is up for registration again, risking legal penalties or major loss in the case of an accident.
After chatting about some of the finer points of renter’s insurance with Gloria, the bilingual account manager, Anthony and I got to talking about social media. At the risk of over-praising, it’s very refreshing to hear a 50-something insurance agency owner saying the following things:
- People underestimate the importance of community when working with social media, it’s really the strongest aspect from a marketing perspective
- I love seeing conversations and questions about insurance coming right to our Facebook page, it’s a great extra value to provide
- Blogging is one of the best insurance marketing tactics we’ve done for organic traffic
- Developing a consistent and optimized flow of compelling content has been the biggest challenge, but we’re committed and new resources will make it much more streamlined
Spending time learning from clients and customers is one of the best ways to grow professionally. There’s simply no better insight into an industry or marketplace than speaking directly with those involved and picking their brains on topics you may not be as tuned in with.
Many thanks to Anthony, Gloria and the entire Bucci Insurance team for welcoming and dropping insurance knowledge on me, it’s a testament to Rhode Island hospitality and what’s great about the insurance industry and Astonish Results partners.
